My Graduation Day with Val Glover-Hovan
My career as a Cosmetic Tattooist started when realising I wanted a career change after more than 20 years in Corporate Admin and Middle Management positions.
Cosmetic Tattooing was pioneered in Australia in 1985 by Val Glover-Hovan and she’s the same wonderful lady who I trained under. She still shares her expertise in this field today and my training with her afforded me the opportunity to participate in a Masters Internship qualifying me with an Award of Excellence in the field of Advanced Cosmetic Tattooing including Paramedical Tattooing. This involves the artistry of Scar Camouflaging and nipple & areola creation required by men and women who’ve had breast cancer, been injured, had breast reconstructive surgery and breast augmentation.
My grandma always said ‘A lady should never go out without a little powder and lippy on’. She still made the effort right up to the ripe old age of 97.
I’m very passionate about my work and like so many other women, I over plucked my eyebrows. I never realised that over time they wouldn’t grow back. I also wore eyeliner everyday so I wouldn’t look like a ‘bald eagle’ without it. I’d have my lashes & brows tinted occasionally but it wouldn’t last long so frustrated & time poor, I decided to have my eyebrows, eyeliner & full lip colour tattooed by Val during my training. I was so excited and have never looked back. Having my brows done especially, made me understand how important they are to your face.
The look we’re used to is not necessarily the best one for us. Cosmetic Tattooing truly makes such a differeunce to your confidence and appearance.
What makes my business unique? I absolutely love what I do and because of my passion for it, I decided that Cosmetic Tattooing was what I would specialise in. Unlike most other practitioners, I don't provide other beauty services within my business. This affords me the luxury of offering a specialised Paramedical Cosmetic Tattooing service in Newcastle.
